Mable Woolsey Elementary and Knox County Government Beat the Odds to
Bring Technology to Local Citizens and Students
VERNON HILLS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
What are the chances that both the local elementary school and county
government in rural Knox County, Ill., would win grand-prize technology
packages in separate national sweepstakes? As it turns out, the
probability of winning both contests is 1 in 3,781,875.
Despite the odds, Knox County accomplished the near impossible, winning
grand prize technology packages in both the Win a Wireless Lab and Win a
Technology Center sweepstakes. The community will get to see the
technology in action at the March 26 Knox County board meeting, where
students and county board members will share how the technology is
directly benefitting 471 elementary students, 25 teachers and 52,000
citizens.
Lindsey Peterson, a third-grade teacher at Mable Woolsey Elementary
School, submitted the winning entry in the 11th-annual Win a Wireless
Lab Sweepstakes from CDW-G
and Discovery
Education. Knox County Public Schools submitted 64 of the 504,250
total entries received in 2013. "Our students are thrilled with how the
new technology is helping them learn," Peterson said. "And students
aren't the only ones loving it - our teachers now have the technology
resources they need to expand their lesson plans and improve student
engagement."
Scott Erickson, Knox County clerk, submitted Knox County's sole entry to
the pool of 480 total entries in the Win a Technology Center Sweepstakes
from CDW-G and the Center for Digital Government. "The technology will
have a direct impact on how we interact with the citizens of Knox
County," Erickson said. "The upgrades will enable us to increase
collaboration with residents and further improve citizen services. We
can't believe that our elementary school also won new technology for our
students."
Mable Woolsey's prize package includes 36 tablet computers, an
interactive whiteboard, student response system, printer, document
camera and a $5,000 Discovery Education digital media grant. CDW-G and
Discovery Education also provided on-site training.
The Knox County Government won a grand prize technology package valued
at more than $20,000, which includes 25 tablet computers, wireless
access points, tablet cart, interactive whiteboard and vote set, laser
printer, conference phone, document camera and one large-format display
with supporting accessories.
"CDW-G participates in these sweepstakes to provide technology solutions
where they are needed the most - in our schools and communities," said
David Hutchins, vice president of state and local government, CDW-G.
"When we put technology into the hands of students, teachers and local
government, everyone in the community benefits. We're proud to be able
to make a difference."
