New Year Gives Educators New Opportunities to “Win a Wireless Lab” from CDW-G and Discovery Education
In the nine years of this partnership, CDW-G and Discovery Education have awarded more than $2 million in educational technology to schools nationwide, empowering thousands of teachers to help students further develop 21st-century skills.
After entering at http://www.discoveryeducation.com/cdwg, educators can secure additional entries for a chance at monthly prizes by using Twitter to spread the news about the program. The 2010 contest generated over 7,000 unique Twitter entries. CDW-G and Discovery Education also plan to announce prize winners through the contest’s Twitter (@WinWirelessLab) and Facebook accounts.
“The Win a Wireless Lab sweepstakes has awarded new wireless labs in 26 schools nationwide, and provided valuable technology to nearly 200 others. We have seen firsthand the fun and engaging lessons that teachers can create when given the right tools,” said Bob Kirby, vice president for K-12 education, CDW-G. “By combining the technology with teachers’ experience and students’ excitement, we have a model that can be easily replicated across the winning schools.”
Win a Wireless Lab 2011 opened on January 3 and runs through May 6. Public and private school teachers, administrators, school technology specialists and district employees are eligible to enter once a day during the contest period:

“Educators today are challenged to create digital learning environments that mirror how students interact with the world outside the classroom,” said Mary Rollins, vice president of education partnerships, Discovery Education. “The Win a Wireless Lab sweepstakes gives schools the chance to win the hardware, content and training that empower educators to meet today’s 21st-century students in the digital world in which they live and learn.”
Each of the three grand-prize winners will receive a 21st-century classroom valued at approximately $50,000, including:
- Discovery Education $5,000 digital media grant
- 20 notebook or tablet computers from HP, Lenovo or Toshiba
- 3 wireless access points from D-Link, Cisco or HP Procurve
- 1 Bretford mobile cart
- 1 interactive whiteboard from PolyVision
- 20 student response devices from Qwizdom
- 1 video projector from Epson or NEC Solutions
- 1 document camera from AVerMedia
- 1 laser printer from Xerox, Epson or HP
- 1 video camcorder from Sony
Win a Wireless Lab sweepstakes entrants are also eligible to win one of three digital signage solutions, which include technology from Ergotron, LG, NEC, Peerless and Samsung. The solution includes installation of three flat screen monitors and a media player to enable schools to provide staff training, deliver community news or disseminate central information easily. CDW-G and Discovery Education will also award:
- 5 interactive whiteboards from Promethean
- 5 netbooks from Acer and Asus
- 5 digital camcorders from Canon
